Meet your instructor: Deborah Moebes of Whipstitch

Hi there! I’m Deborah, and I’ve been waiting for you for a long time.
When I’m not building quilting classes, I write Whipstitch, a blog about modern sewing.
After a decade as a schoolteacher and a short career as an archaeologist, I stumbled (kinda backward) into sewing and have never looked back. I’m the author of two books, Stitch by Stitch and Stitch Savvy, and founder of a retail sewing lounge in Atlanta, GA, which was voted Best of Atlanta every year it was open. I currently host an annual sew-it-to-solve-it quilting club called The Murder Mystery Quilt, and founded the League of Dressmakers, a monthly club for adventurous garment sewing. I also share videos about sewing on my YouTube channel in addition to writing and musing about the social & emotional impact of sewing on my blog.
I live in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) with my four children, my husband, and a ton of houseplants. You can follow me on Instagram, where I post about my (lovely but lazily maintained) garden, our renovated mid-century ranch (which is the subject of many a house tour), and the garments I’m currently sewing + designing. You should know that I firmly believe sewing is for everyone, and that you’ll learn the most if you jump in with both feet and give it a shot–even if you’re not quite sure what you’re doing. I’m also quite adamant that everything ought to have pockets.
You can read more on my About Page. I’m excited to get to know you as we learn How To Quilt!
